Asynchronous Service Callout

Hi,

I am trying to log messages to Splunk using serviceCallout and facing issue similar to the one mentioned here where my response time has increaded drastically : https://community.apigee.com/questions/62668/message-logging-using-javascript-and-service-callo.html

If removing Response element from the Service Callout makes it Async,why do we get this overhead . Is it better to use Javascript for making async calls to backend?
