Coursera apigee development node.js mashup lab error 502

Coursera: Apigee Development node.js mashup. The mashup pulls data from dB and then calls the google api geo location api asynchronously. First half of lab works. 2nd half executes async call. Getting error 502 on 2nd half of lab. Added “async” version 3.1.0 to dependencies in package.json via npm install. Does Apigee support? Lab refers to deprecated functionality, so using hosted-targets to complete lab and Apigee tool to deploy. Solution deploys successfully. A little irked that lab has not been updated...although class has been good overall
