Implementing the ExternalLdapConProvider interface for running Custom LDAP Search

I have an external LDAP server. I have been able to successfully create an LDAP resource and was able to successfully authenticate a user. Can someone explain these steps of implementing the ExternalLdapConProvider interface mentioned at :-

I need to run a search on any user and extract all or some of its attributes.
