saml for edge vs external authentication configuration

Hi, I am trying to set up saml for edge (ie, using a saml IDP to authenticate). Does this mean that I can ignore apigee instructions for "external authentication configuration"?. The external authentication configuration seems to assume you are calling an external ldap (either directly or indirectly) but I am guessing using federation services is different. I am kinda new to this and I have been reading documentation but it's not clear to me, hence why I asked question

Yes, you can ignore the "external authentication configuration" doc. All you need to know is in the SAML doc here:
