Hi,

We would like to keep upgrading to the latest release from yum update and not lock to the minor version in Red Hat Subscription Manager (RHSM).

In this way we would like to keep the productive systems updates or upgrades to the latest security packages.

The repos are internal which are always in synch with the latest version in Red Hat Subscription Manager (RHSM). Say for eg. now at this time of creating this case RHEL 7.4.

There will be a security threat if we pin down to a minor RHEL versions; possibility of loosing security relevant patching that is available afterwards on higher minor versions.

Today we are sticking to the PAM as recommended, but need your support and recommendation by fixing this by updating the application and with that making sure they support RHEL 7.4.

Requirement is that current release supports/ compiles on all future RHEL minor versions.

Example. For a current installation on version 4.17.05.xx, Supported software and supported versions is Red Hat Enterprise Linux (Intel 64-bit):7.3.

Also for new installation we would like to take the new/ latest [minor] version of RHEL 7.4 for instances.

Please let know how do you support an upstream repository being pinned down.

BR, Suraj
