Why should i run Apigee Edge Private Cloud (OPDK) on GCP (Google Cloud Platform) vs Others ?

We understand that Apigee Edge OPDK can run on any cloud / own datacenter.

  • Why should someone choose Google Cloud to run Apigee Edge OPDK than any other cloud ?
  • What's the advantage one can get by running Apigee Edge OPDK on GCP compared to other cloud providers ?
  • Is there a difference how we run Apigee on GCP compared to rest that will provide technical / business advantage ?

Apigee Edge Private Cloud is infrastructure agnostic. This means it can be installed and successfully run on any physical or virtualized infrastructure including GCP, AWS and Azure.

Edge will perform equally well on any of the above.

Now, when it comes to GCP, not all Clouds are equal. GCP offers many capabilities and feature that could significantly enhance the value customers get from Edge, their APIs and data.

  • GCP regions connect to each other via dedicated Google network. Making communication faster, more reliable and secure.
  • GCP offers customer end-to-end security. Not just end-point-to-end-point, but at multiple layers of the infrastructure all the way to the hardware.
  • As GCP product, Apigee Edge is moving alone offering hybrid products. Meaning, customers will be able to run a portion of their installed capacity on the infrastructure of their choosing while keeping some capabilities on the Cloud. Hybrid analytics is a good example: Private Cloud customers could sign-up to having the analytics data store on Apigee Cloud rather than on-prem. This capability opens the door for larger volumes, taking advantage of machine learning, etc.

The above combined with outstanding capabilities provided by GCP such as Machine Learning (ML), extensive support for containers, server-less architecture, hybrid monitoring via Stackdriver, etc. Makes GCP as the logical, or at least, a very strong contender for running Edge.

Great answer @Maudrit .

I heard that with GCP there is an easy way to whitelist the NB IPs where as with aws you can't as the range keeps changing.

Do you know anything more about that?

Great Answer @Maudrit , +1 , Thank you !
