Java-callout data base connectivity question

Not applicable

Hi, I'm trying to understand why we will use the Java-callout in APIGEE edge. I thought, If we are not able build a logic/complex logic in java script and have a requirement to connect to the oracle data base to fetch/update the values or needs to call a back-end service in proxy then only we can go for the Java-callout right. Is this nothing but Customize an API using java or Is there any other concepts to customize proxies or API's? Please advice. Thanks!

Hi @Swapna there are several ways to extend/customize Apigee Edge by adding custom policies in JavaScript, Node.js, Java & Python. If you are a shop which has a lot of existing investment in Java, you can preserve that investment (where you see it fit) by leveraging the Java callout policies. Typical use cases are accessing databases, legacy systems which may not be service enabled and some pre-developed utilities.
