Algorithm used to created app secret and keys

What is the algorithm used to create app secret or key , is it just a random string . Is there any specific template or algorithm used?

Whether we can modify/specify the format or algorithm for app secret or keys?

AFAIK Edge generates a random sequence of bytes used for keys and secrets. The length is configured in an org-wide properties file and it is 32 and 16 characters each, for app key and app secret respectively.
