I had a great conversation with a retail customer yesterday. Had been some time since we talked (~9months), and he let me know that since our last conversation, they were really accelerating their move to the cloud.
They were experienced with AWS, but had recently been examining Azure and Google - and of course they were going to have a significant footprint on premises for the foreseeable future as well.
In comparing the different options from the major public cloud providers, price was obviously a consideration, but also things like culture - this individual was favorably disposed to Google and AWS as they were cloud native, he saw Azure as very aggressive on business terms but culturally too 'enterprise' in their business style for his taste.
One thing we discussed is how using an API layer would enable him to choose the cloud provider option best for him on price/technology/culture going forward for any given application.
