Platform business strategy: excited, worried, or not a current priority?

I had a great conversation with Dr. Annabelle Gawer at I Love APIs Europe. She's part of a research consortium that just completed a fantastic assessment of platform businesses worldwide.

I've personally found EMEA to be a hotbed of companies large and small using APIs to adopt new ways of doing business. (Swisscom is super clear about changing their culture to think like a digital native platform, wile glh hotels has transformed the way they do IT to the same end, and there are many more examples.)

But when you look at some of the numbers on the number and size of digital platform companies, at least some European policy makers feel Europe is falling behind.

Whether you're in EMEA or not, what's the lens on platform business at your organization? Excitement about the opportunity? Fear of falling behind? Or is it not a priority--or "clear as mud?"
