API Monitoring - How broad do you go?

How many of the resources within your APIs do you actively monitor? How many different use cases do you cover with the monitoring? Where do you draw the line between functional testing v.s. monitoring?

More ideas here but I would be interested in the approaches taken by the community.

One additional question to ask is what type of monitoring of APIs should you do ? Within Edge, we have 3 types:

1. API performance monitoring based on metrics coming out of the gateway

2. Synthetic Transaction monitoring as part of Apigee Test

3. Real User (device level) monitoring as part of mobile APM.

I think all 3 are valuable.
