caret missing on parent child menu in bootstrap 3 theme

Hi community,

I have switched to the Bootstrap 3 theme in the Developer Portal, and I am using nested menu items in the main navigation.

Now for the parents of the nested elements, there is no down arrow (caret) displayed, only when the item is active.

Does anyone know how to add this span by default on the items which have childs, but only by using the CMS? I dont want to make any code changes or a child theme.
