Apigee BaaS is the commercial version of the Apache Usergrid project. Apigee BaaS adds functionality to Usergrid such as Push Notifications. Also, each Developer Apigee BaaS account comes with 25 GB of storage for free. With Apigee BaaS, you get a superset of the Usergrid feature set and it can be used free of charge for commercial purposes. Usergrid provides an open source alternative to customers who have data needs that are greater than the 25 GB offered by Apigee or who want greater control over their data management software. Apigee BaaS requires a valid Apigee account to be setup and used. Usergrid does not require an Apigee account.

Both options provide a robust NOSQL database, built on top of Apache Cassandra. All storage and retrieval (CRUD) operations are the same for each, so you can start out with one solution and migrate to the other fairly easily if need be.
