We need a tool for easy transfer of data from Google Drive to Google Cloud Storage

Google will soon be implementing storage quotas for Google Workspace. This inevitably leads to certain users needing to move data out of Google Drive to some other storage facility. Google Cloud Storage seems a natural place for this overflow of data, but there is a stumbling block because there is no easy way to transfer data between the services.

The only way to transfer data no is to download from one and re-upload to the other. Presumably, since both services are on Google's infrastructure it would be much easier and more efficient for Google to provide a tool to ease this transition.

Not sure if this is what you may be looking for but Colab research has discovered something....https://colab.research.google.com/drive/1Xc8E8mKC4MBvQ6Sw6akd_X5Z1cmHSNca

Hi Penelope,

Yes, I am aware of the colab tool. It has the same approach as other 3rd party services. It acts a "middle-man" between Drive and GCS.

So any data transfers of data are happening twice. First data is transferred from Drive to Colab, then again from Colab to GCS.

This works fine for small amounts of data. But it is extremely inefficient for large data transfers. It is not much different than downloading the data and re-uploading it yourself.

What is needed is a direct mechanism provided by Google that can transfer the data without a middle step.
