Late response but figured I'd post if anyone else was looking for answers. The modal forms are using the Bootstrap Modal Forms module - you can configure this module at admin/config/user-interface/bootstrap_modal_forms. You can select which forms you want to use modals (options are log in, register, and reset password). You can't disable the module though as it is required by another Apigee module.
