How to encrypt/decrypt a SOAP payload in APIGEE

I am new to apigee and working on a proof of concept and have no more constraints.

I just need to encrypt the payload be it any sort of encryption.

I am planning to try out java callout policy but need to understand if there is any other way to achieve this.
