Extending Apigee to support message integration

Currently we are utilizing Apigee as a Gateway purposes only and are thinking if it could be extended to manage more advanced data tranformation needs.

In our scenario the Apigee Gateway would expose customer centric facade APIs and transform the incoming request to be in compliant with target backend-system. We might have many facade API -instances from the target backend system, meaning that Apigee would be then doing lot data manipulation.

Have you done this using Apigee only or did you have another data integration tool in between?

Any thoughts, experience, tutorials, hints and links of doing this are welcome 🙂

We would recommend using Apigee Integration for this kind of use case, which is an Add-on capability to Apigee, or is now available as a stand alone service in public preview, called Application Integration.  It provides orchestration, data mapping, and connectors so that you can solve use cases like this one.  Check out Nandan's post last month regarding the preview availability of Application Integration here.
