Backup and Dr - How to change the compute engine name in backup dr appliance

Hi,

 

I have onboarded several compute engine VM instances to the backup and DR management console appliance for taking vm backups

 

However in recent times some vm names are changed oin the gcp console. due to which the backup of those vms are failing. how to update this hostname in the backup dr appliance

Unfortunately you cannot directly update the compute engine name within the Backup and DR service itself. Because the backup process captures the original instance name as metadata, and this information is retained within the backup itself. The workarounds that you can do are:

Update the Compute Engine Name. The most straightforward solution is to update the name of the compute engine instance directly in the GCP console. This will automatically reflect in the Backup and DR service.

Re-register the Compute Engine. If updating the name isn't feasible, you can re-register the compute engine with the Backup and DR appliance. This essentially creates a new entry with the current name. But be sure to unregister the old instance first to avoid duplicates.
